Approximately 50% of patients who go to their doctor sometime during their lifetime seek answers regarding allergic or hypersensitivity reactions to something they have inhaled, ingested or come into contact with in their home or work environment. Such is the result of "better living through chemistry!" The degree of Allergy symptoms can range from a mild annoyance to severe, life-threatening illness. Medical scientists are still searching and researching for the exact cause(s) of allergy and hypersensitivity. All the answers may take years to find. From a conventional Western medical perspective, allergy is an overreaction of the antibody immune system to something which most people do not over react to. An Allergy is a medical condition of unusual sensitivity where the person suffering is unusually sensitive to a substance that the majority of other individuals are not reactive to. In the allergic person the allergic substance is referred to as the "allergen" and is viewed by the body as a threat to well-being. Since NAET was developed using the principles of Oriental Medicine, an allergy is defined as a substance that affects energy flow in the Acupuncture meridians... a "Toxic" invasion, if you will. This "invasion" causes blockages in the energy pathways and disrupts the normal flow through the body's energy circuits. This blockage leads to an interference in communication within the nervous, endocrine-glandular and immune systems (Neuro-Endocrine-Immune network). This is the first step in a chain of events that ultimately develops into what clinically becomes an "allergic response." The clinical "allergic response" is actually a physiologic alarm reaction due to disturbed or loss of normal physiologic Regulation that produces different symptoms, depending on the allergen, the unique aspects of the individual and their family inheritance pattern (genetics). Thus, some patients with allergies experience "hay fever," other will get "asthma" and still others will get "eczema".
Conventional medical testing for allergy incorporates several methods. Intradermal shots, skin patch testing, skin scratch testing and various blood tests, including "RAST" and "ELISA" technologies. In most cases previous exposure is required for the test to be "positive." The short coming here is that all that is being measured with these tests is the immediate antibody response and it is still possible to be highly reactive to a substance in the face of a "negative" test. Conventional allergy treatment consists of avoidance whenever possible, symptomatic allergy medications (both prescription and over-the-counter), desensitizing allergy shots over months to years and/or "steroids." Unfortunately, none of these methods "cures" the underlying allergy.
NAET, which stands for "Nambudripad's Allergy Elimination Technique," is natural, drugless, painless, non-invasive and clinically seems to actually "cure" the allergic state. By "cure" we mean that after the offending allergen(s) has been identified and treated with NAET re-exposure does NOT seem to cause any reaction in almost 100% of those treated with this method. Perhaps it is the Eastern Oriental approach to treatment, but in any event NAET has revolutionized the Homeopathic Integrative approach to allergies among those practitioners that have learned to use this method. NAET can be used by all ages, from newborn infants to anyone of advanced age. It may also be used in animals by properly trained vets. It can also detect "hidden" or "suppressed allergies before the symptoms become obvious, as well as treat really difficult allergy symptoms. The testing involves the use of muscle testing, also called kinesiology. First all "basic" foods must be tested and treated if positive. Then other known or suspected offending allergens may be tested and treated in any order. Treatment involves an unusual mix of Homeopathy, Neuro Muscular Integration, and Acupuncture, but simple Acupressure may also be used. Allergens are "cleared" (treated) one at a time. The best results are obtained if the allergens are treated in a specific sequence. The treated substance must then be avoided for 25 hours. After this period re-exposure results in no reaction in most cases. In some individuals who are highly reactive additional "combination" treatments may sometimes be required, but this is uncommon.
Although this method was discovered quite by accident by Dr. Devi Nambudripad, her persistence is following through with personal clinical research to develop this method and her generosity in teaching other health care professionals willing to learn something new has resulted in a revolution in allergy therapy for most patients treated using the NAET method.
